Reclaimed Gray stain imitates the aging process that occurs in nature by reacting with the tannin's of the wood to create an unique aged gray look. Use as the color for the finished product or to give a gray to black undertone to your regular solvent base stains.
1. Properly prepare surface by removing all oils, dirt and old finish.
2.Use 100-120 grit paper for the final sanding cut.
3.Remove all dust with a vacuum.
4.Take a moisture reading and make note for future reference.
When first learning to use Reclaimed Gray it is best to start with a mixture of 8-10 parts of water to one part Reclaimed Gray
1.Stir or shake material thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Apply a test sample on a small inconspicuous area before proceeding with entire job. Reclaimed Gray can be lightened using tap water (do your test sections and project with the same water) but is best to use reverse osmosis, de-ionized, or distilled water. Mixed stain has a shorter shelf life, mix only what you need for each job.Warning! water can cause irreversible damage veneers and engineered products.
2.Apply the coat of Reclaimed Gray liberally with a pump sprayer, (be careful of drips and laps)smoothing it out with a brush, roller, painters pad or T bar applicator. Going with the grain as much as possible. Going back over the sections every few feet to spread out any lapping or puddling.
3.Allow product to penetrate for 5- 10 minutes, then when stain is mostly dry you can start rinsing with tap water. Rinsing to soon can affect the chemical reaction.
4.If darker color is desired, you can apply a second coat, or re-wet after thoroughly dry. Rinsing only after the final coat.
5.Allow the final coat to thoroughly dry.
Take moisture reading and check that it matches original reading, before putting on the finish or stain.
6.Finish with a urethane or oil finish of your choice. For best results coat with a solvent based finish or hard wax oil.Caution some waterborne finish will leave a purple hue in the finish
